  Aperture Exposure - amount of light on a photo.  Aperture is a hole in the lens which lets light travel into the camera to reach the sensor.  Large pupil size equals large aperture, while small pupil size equals small aperture. Larger number equals smaller iris  Smaller number equals bigger iris

RenĂ© Magritte RenĂ© Magritte was a surrealist artist who described his paintings in this quote: "My painting is visible images which conceal nothing; they evoke mystery and, indeed, when one sees one of my pictures, one asks oneself this simple question, 'What does that mean?' It does not mean anything, because mystery means nothing , it is unknowable." RenĂ© was most interested in the surrealist movement as it fit his manner of depicting mystery.     August Sander | Zeughaus Street (1930s) | Artsy August Sander was a German Photographer who took pictures of the citizens of the Weimar Republic in Inter-war Germany from the artistic, the bohemian elite to the Nazis and those they persecuted. His photography told stories of hyperinflation and political turmoil. People taken away from their families, sent off to countrysides to never see their families again. Sander is most known for his project "The people of the 20th century" , believing that through photography he could reveal the characteristic traits of people.    The picture above is of Zeughaus-street, taken in the 1930's. The social context of this photograph is the build up to World War 2 and the effects of the Great Depression, which left over 6 million Germans unemployed. The picture tells us this, not only by the date of when it was taken, but the lack of people in the picture, creating an allure of questions on where the people who lived on this stre...

 RULES OF COMPOSITION Rule of thirds: Focus on a subject or an object in a photograph using vertical and horizontal lines.  Leading lines: Using bold, strong lines in a photograph to draw attention to a certain perspective or a vanishing point, creating depth in the photograph.  Cropping:   When you crop an image, you scale an image down to show detail to a certain aspect of it and hide the unwanted parts of the image. Depth:  Using a high depth to create depth in the image, allowing the viewer to travel through the photo.      Horizon line:  Using sea , land or beach to create a horizon line in the middle of the image to have a dramatic effect.  Point of view:  Changing the point of view in an image to bring the viewer or image in that tells us more about the image.  Background control/Shallow depth of field:  Using depth of field to blur the background in order to make the subject of the photograph or a particular p...

 Assignment *  To show daily routine from own perspective. RULES:  Minimum of 9 photographs using phone from own perspective (can include hands,feet,legs and reflection of face/body but not actual face. Phone filters may be used to improve images. Inspiration from other artists can be taken. Show emotions and feelings through the photographs. Outcomes for assessment:  Print and present as series. Create a video using images (narration and footage may be used). A 3D sculpture of the images (print and mount on foam board then assemble together). Timeline plan
